Providing for a family

Preema's children came running home from their
Bible Club to tell her about the free literacy class...

As India's women hear about Jesus in Mission India's Adult Literacy Classes, entire families are being transformed!

The air in Preema’s village is thick with the stench of rotten trash dumped near the river. With no other water source, villagers often get sick from malaria and other diseases.

Preema and her family are very poor - they barely have enough money for food. Preema dreamed of sending her three children to school. But that was impossible!

Then, Preema’s kids were invited to join a Children’s Bible Club. They always came home with smiles on their faces and a new story to tell their mother about someone named Jesus.

One night, Preema’s oldest son came dashing into the house. “Mama, I have seen many older people carrying slates and books in their hands. It looked as if they were going to school. They all gathered in the same place where we go to our Bible Club.”

Preema had heard from her neighbors that free literacy classes were starting in their village, but it seemed too good to be true. So, when she heard her son’s news, she was overjoyed!

The next day, Preema enrolled in the classes taught by a Mission India partner.

Each night, when her children came running home from the Bible Club, Preema hurried to her class! It was like a relay race every day.

In her Adult Literacy classes, Preema learned how to read and write. The teacher talked about how to keep clean and avoid diseases, and encouraged the students to save money.

She also listened to the stories about Jesus. At home, Preema and her children talked about what they were learning about Jesus. They began praying together.

Soon, Preema received Jesus as her personal Saviour. She attends church with her children now. Their daily prayer is for her husband to know Jesus as Saviour, too.
