Lack of literacy is an epidemic in India

Global literacy experts believe 70% of Indians are unable to read or write - that's twice the official Indian government estimates.
- 200 million Indian women cannot read or write
- 35% of school age children are not enrolled in school
- Over 740 million people (¾ of India's population) live in rural, poor villages
- 86% of Indians earn less than 70 pence a day
- 456 million earn less than 35 pence a day
Mission India’s Bible-based Adult Literacy Classes are bringing hope of a brighter future to India’s poor.
Local Christians are eager to serve as volunteer teachers and introduce Adult Literacy Classes into their own communities. You can partner with them in giving life-changing reading and writing skills - and joy and new hope in Jesus - to India's poor.
For £18 you can give the gift of literacy to someone in India. £540 will sponsor a whole class of 30 students.
