Malaria claims life of Children's Bible Club volunteer
A Bible Club leader recently succumbed to malaria, showing her dedication to reaching local children up to the end of her life.
Children's Bible Club leaders like Mahana are investing themselves in the lives of India's children, showing the love of the Lord Jesus to them daily.15 July 2010
Mahana was suffering from malaria for over a month when she passed away on July 2.
Despite her lingering illness, Mahana mustered enough energy to keep leading her local Year-Long Children’s Bible Club — even the very night before her death!
The 36 year -old mother of five couldn’t afford the treatment for malaria, a curable disease which is endemic in India.
Her husband did not have a job and was not motivated to provide for his family.
Mahana kept food on the table by growing crops on a small piece of family land. She used the small honorarium she received as a Year Long Children’s Bible Club leader to pay for her children’s school fees.
Her dedication to the boys and girls in her Bible Club was evident to everyone. Though she was suffering from malaria, Mahana kept coming each night to lead the club.
The night before she passed away, Mahana was at the club, feverish yet still leading the boys and girls in singing and listening to them recite their Bible verses from memory.
Please pray for Mahana’s family and for the boys and girls in the Bible Club who are mourning her untimely death.
Also, give thanks to the Lord for the passion that He instilled in Mahana to reach the children of her village with the love of the Lord Jesus!
Pray that her legacy will continue to impact families in this community.
