Joy in any circumstance

Drug-addicted teenager turns to Jesus for freedom from his struggles

12 January 2010

Monjit was bitter.

Just 15 years old, but his life had not been easy. Monjit had grown up in a desperately poor family and he felt there was no escape from the struggles of poverty.

Then he was introduced to drugs. The momentary freedom Monjit felt when he took the drugs gave him the escape he was looking for.

Quickly, his life became devoted to feeding his addiction. He found ways to make extra money to spend on drugs. For the next three years Monjit lived an empty life.

One day, a friend invited him to a Children’s Bible Club.

As Monjit attended the Club he met others who had grown up in poverty, but somehow lived with joy in spite of their circumstances. Monjit had never met people like this before!

As he listened to Bible stories and sang praise songs, Monjit realised that he didn’t want to live as a drug addict anymore. He wanted to live a life of joy like his new friends at the Club.

Through the Word of God, Monjit was transformed!

Now, Monjit wants to spread the Good News of Jesus to other children who are addicted to drugs. Monjit is praying that God will open a door for him to become a pastor someday and preach the Christian message in order to change lives!
