From a ‘No’ to a ‘Yes!’

Little girl pleads with Hindu parents to join a Children's Bible Club

At first Mahika's parents said no to attending the Children's Bible Club. Soon they changed their answer to an enthusiastic Yes!

5 August 2009

“No.”

That’s what Mahika’s parents said the first time she asked to join her friends at the new Children’s Bible Club in her area.

The second time she pleaded with them, Mahika’s parents were even more firm.

“That club is for Christians, not Hindus like us,” they said.

Mahika was sitting sadly in front of her home when her friends came skipping back from the first day of the Club. She eagerly listened about their day – singing songs, hearing stories, playing games.

Even though she knew her parents might be angry, Mahika decided to be bold and ask one more time. Could she go tomorrow to the Bible Club with her friends?

Their answer was a surprise: “Yes. But only for one day.”

The next morning Mahika was up bright and early. She stood in front of her house, waiting to walk with her friends to the club. At the last minute, Mahika’s parents even let her younger brother go along.

Mahika had amazing stories to share with her parents when she got home that day. She told them about the prophet Nehemiah and shared the story of missionary Lillian Thrasher. She also sang a few songs for them.

Mahika's friends encouraged her to come to the club.

The joyful smile on her face was enough to convince Mahika’s parents - they let her go back to the Club the next day. And the next.

Each night, the family gathered to hear Mahika and her brother share the Bible stories and praise songs.

Mahika’s mother and father couldn’t help but notice that, even in just a few short days, their children were already more polite and courteous. They were careful to do the household chores and each night prayed to Jesus to provide for their family’s needs.

At the end of the two-week Bible Club, Mahika’s parents told the volunteer leader that they wished the Club could go on longer! Mahika is eager to attend the nearby church and learn more about Jesus.

Pray that Mahika and her family will accept Jesus as their Saviour!
