The Unwanted Girl

Nakusa grew up feeling unwanted by her own family, just because she was a girl...

Nakusa grew up feeling unwanted by her own family - then she heard about Jesus in a Children's Bible Club, and knew the joy of being cherished for the first time!

At her birth, Nakusa wasn't wanted. She was a girl - and her parents were hoping for a boy who would grow up to help provide for the family. Even her name means "unwanted."

When Nakusa was just a few days old, her father lost his job. Instantly, the family sank into poverty. "Nakusa was born to put a curse on the family," Nakusa's grandmother said.

Nakusa grew up in a slum with her poor family. She hated it when her family and neighbors said, "You're the unwanted girl" or "You're the unlucky girl."

Nakusa thought, "Nobody loves me."

Then, Nakusa was invited to a Children's Bible Club. She enjoyed playing with the other children, memorizing Bible verses, and singing songs. She also learned to pray to Jesus. Nakusa was amazed that God loved her enough to die for her!

One night at the Bible Club, Nakusa received Jesus Christ as her Saviour.

She ran home that night. "Mom! Dad!" she yelled excitedly, "You have to hear about Jesus!"

Nakusa took her younger brother along with her to the Bible Club. Every night, Nakusa told her family about her Saviour Jesus. She also led them in prayer for her father to get a job.

And her father got a good job!

"It is through Nakusa's prayers to Jesus that our family is prospering," her parents say.

Today, Nakusa says, "I want to become a missionary teacher. Pray for my future and that my mom, dad, sister, and brother come to a saving knowledge of Jesus."
