Finding a Friend

Sonesh discovers freedom from loneliness and isolation

Church planters in India are sharing God's Word and bringing new hope to entire communities!

22 July 2009

Sonesh was 15 years old when his parents both died.

Crippled by polio as a child, Sonesh was unable to work to support himself and his brother, Mahesh.

The boys were dependant on family members and village neighbours, who occasionally provided clothing and food.

Mahesh grew up and moved to a nearby town to work. He sent Sonesh what money he could spare, but worked so many hours that he couldn’t visit very often.

What Sonesh craved more than anything was a friend.

He never complained, bearing his loneliness and sorrow in silence.

So when a Mission India Church Planter named Rajit came to his door, Sonesh eagerly invited him in.

Rajit returned to visit Sonesh frequently, reading to Sonesh from the Bible and praying with him.

He also invited Sonesh to attend a new literacy class in their village, which Rajit teaches as part of his ministry outreach.

In the class, Sonesh finally found the acceptance and friendships he had been yearning for - including a special new friendship - with Jesus!

Sonesh will graduate soon from his literacy class and is now able to read and write in his own Indian language at the level of a 10 year old and do simple numeracy.

He is also hoping to be baptised soon, so he can be a witness to the entire community about the transforming love and power of Jesus.
