Prayers to a Tree

Teja never experienced answered prayers until she turned to Jesus

Teja has confidence that her prayers to Jesus are being heard - and answered!

Villagers believed the tree that grew behind the temple had special powers.

Teja scribbled her prayer on a small slip of paper. With a brightly colored thread, she tied the slip to a tree branch.

Then she prayed to the tree, "Bless my daughter with a good husband."

While she waited for an answer in the weeks that passed, Teja met a Mission India Church Planter named Lukesh.

She invited Lukesh to her house, and he shared the Gospel. "If my daughter gets married, I will follow the Christian faith," Teja promised.

A month later, Teja’s daughter did get married!

But Teja forgot about her promise.

A year and a half later, Teja’s daughter had had two miscarriages. Teja found Lukesh and asked for his prayers again.

He told her the story of Hannah from the Bible. Teja prayed to Jesus that her daughter would give birth to a healthy child. Quickly, her daughter conceived and gave birth. It was a boy!

Holding her grandson in her arms, Teja was happy. But he wouldn’t drink milk.

Teja went to Lukesh. "Will you pray for my grandson? He refuses to drink milk." Lukesh told Teja more about Jesus. And he prayed.

The next day, Teja’s grandson began drinking milk.

Teja wept. She couldn’t believe that God was so faithfully answering her. "This is the true God," she realized.

Teja accepted Jesus as her Saviour.

Now, Teja attends church each week. She also goes out into the community and shares her testimony.

She says, "I used to write my prayers on paper and hang them on a tree. But now I know that prayer to Jesus is the only way to communicate with God and see answered prayers."
