Syun drank, gambled, and beat his wife. Then he heard about Jesus for the first time...
In India, church planters are meeting the needs of lost souls like Syun through prayer and the Word of God. Thriving churches are being planted in communities where the Christian message is often being heard for the first time! 10 August 2010
23-year-old Syun lived for himself.
During the day, he sat around the village and gossiped. When the sun sank below the horizon, Syun drank heavily and gambled.
When he staggered through the door to his house night after night, he beat his wife with his fists and screamed hatefully at her.
Syun had three children, but his wife alone carried the burden of providing for them. She grew food on their small plot of land. What little she earned she used to send her eldest two children to school.
One day, a Mission India church planter named Vishali met Syun. Vishali talked about his faith in the Lord Jesus, and Syun asked him a lot of questions.
“Jesus freely gives peace and eternal life. You can have these things, too,” Vishali told Syun. “You just have to ask.”
Vishali began visiting Syun and his young family. He prayed for them.
A few weeks later, Syun confessed his sins and accepted Christ as his Saviour. He gave up gambling and avoided alcohol. He stopped gossiping, too.
Syun’s wife was amazed at the changes she saw in him. She, too, confessed her sins and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Saviour.
Syun and his wife were recently baptised. Now, Syun serves in a nearby church. He shares his faith with the local villagers and ministers among them.
