Here are a few photos from my most recent India trip...
Teaching the Adult Literacy Class: The Adult Literacy class teacher, Sudeep (himself a school teacher during the day) oversees the 2-hour class every night, for the whole year of the course! Jenga in India!: During the Sunday service Tim was asked to speak. He used a game of Jenga (played with the church planter, Azuba) to teach the group of worshippers about building their lives on God's promises. The game was very popular amongst the children - and even adults!Adult Literacy Class hut: The makeshift hut where the Adult Literacy class was being held. 15 adults, and several children, were crammed inside. The course was aimed at 'slum travellers' who had set up their 'community' beside a road and near to where they hoped to get work as labourers. Below inside the hut...
Gathering for church: The early-arrivers get ready for the Sunday worship service!
Tim at ChampahataAfter a 2 hour drive south of Kolkata we stopped in this small, bustling town, typical of many in the more rural areas of India.
Tim and CBC class all wave! The class had patiently waited for us to arrive, and then several members sang, danced and recited Bible verses by heart.
Tim with Adult Literacy student ProtikaThis lady proudly showed us how she had progressed in her literacy class, having only been studying for 2 months. The class meets every day for about 2 hours, and will continue for a year. This is an amazing commitment by the teacher, a guy named Papooray, whose local church partners with Mission India to deliver the course.
